A friend of mine is using (for the first time) access, at work. Apparently (I am
told) Access will exit if the X button (top right button on screen) is clicked
*without* asking for a confirmation - even if there have been changed made to
the data! I find this a bit unlikely - but as I have never used Access myself,
could comment either way. Is this true though? If so, can anything be done to
fix it?
I don't know which version they are using but it is running under Windows 2000

That's correct since the data is automatically saved (unless there are codes
to do otherwise if data entry is done on an Access Form).

Yes - thanks. I'll pass the info. on - but I understood the person to mean that
upon re-opening the form, the data was not there. I see them tomorrow and double
check.

There are many ways to use Access and the behaviour depends on the set-up.
Suggest the "other" person to post his / her questions with more details
about the set-up.

The form he is using could be set to only show new records as they are entered and reset each time he closes out to be blank for data entry. The old records and the data he added are probably safely stored in a table. He could try going to the Records menu and click on Remove Filter/Sort if the menus are available. There could be a lot of other reasons though. This is just one of them that I have encountered. The only time Access prompts to save changes is when you make a change to the structure of the database or when you delete records in certain places, not when you add records.

Or add a "Dirty" event to the form, then, if you change data in the form
without hitting a 'save' button, it squawks.
