New XP installation on 200GB HD

Platform:
Asus P4PE MB, latest BIOS (1007)
P4 2.4 GHz processor
1GB RAM

Current drives are a 40GB Maxtor (7200rpm) and an 80GB Maxtor (5400rpm).
The 40GB is the master drive, and has a high-pitched whine that's driving me
nuts. So I've got a 200GB Seagate on the way (also IDE, and 7200rpm).

I want to install the new drive as the master drive on the first IDE
channel. Or should that be on the RAID channel, all by itself? Is that
even possible? I guess that's the first question. The only reason I
thought of that is that the RAID channel is ATA 133, not 100 like the
regular channels, but I doubt you can have a RAID with only one drive.

Second, I'm going to do a clean Windows XP installation on the drive with
NTFS. I'll use the old 80GB Maxtor (5400 rpm drive) for extra storage
(alt.binaries.breasts.natural, anyone??), but I want to use this honking big
fast drive for most stuff. So I think I need to have the latest and
greatest MS XP service pack, and the latest version of the Intel Accelerator
software. But if I'm installing onto a clean new drive using my XP CD, do I
need to do anything besides just installing the extra stuff ASAP?
Otherwise, how do I get the extra two software packages to be recognized
before the OS is actually installed?

I know this type of question gets asked a lot here, but I've done some
reading and didn't find a final answer (to my satisfaction, anyways).

You need to slipstream SP1 into the XP install disk, otherwise XP won't
recognize more than 137 GB of your hard drive. Instructions can be found
here:

Thanks! That should help. I may try installing Server 2003 first anyways,
but if I go the XP route, that should help.

For posterity's sake, I'll answer my own questions. I'm typing this on my
"new" Server 2003 machine, with the 200GB Seagate driver running as the
primary drive. Quiet like a dream, too... Now to start working on the fan
noise... :)

1) It is possible to install a single drive on an ASUS P4PE RAID
controller. Works like a damn. Only gotcha is that ASUS didn't have the
Server 2003 driver for the controller, so I had to download it from the MSI
website.

2) Server 2003 works fine out of the box with >120GB HD's, at least on the
RAID controller of the above board. No SP's required.
