Help! I have a new home build PC and want a fresh install of XP, but only
have original version of XP Home, not SP1 or 2. I can boot from CD, but orig
CD will only allow partition of 138GB of my 750GB drive, and I only want ONE
partition. I have tried to use the software from seagate to make one big
partition (which works fine), but when I then try to install XP from CD, it
freaks out and won't install. I don't have a floppy installed to use the
floppy boot packages from here on MS.COM for XP. How can I get around the
138GB limit???

You need to integrate/slipstream your copy of Windows XP (the installation
media (CD)) with SP1 or better yet - SP2.

One of the easier methods would be to utilize a tool like nLite...
Otherwise - my suggestion is for you to Google for "slipstream SP2 into
Windows XP CD" and follow the set of instructions that best suites your
abilities.

You will need over 1.5GB of hard disk drive free space (2+GB to be safe) and
the CD (Windows XP of course), The IT SP2 download and a system to do this
on with Windows XP/2000 already installed and working. You'll also need a
drive capable of burning/writing a CD, a blank CD and the proper programs
installed to do so (Windows XP will not do this for you.)

Essentially - if you haven't pieced it together yet - you are making a new
CD based off the one you have - with SP2 integrated into it.

By creating a slipstreamed winxp installation disk containing latest sp
Depending on sata controler being used you may also need to F6 during the
win installation to install sata / raid drivers from floppy, or also
slipstream these drivers into your installation disk

This info is very helpful, as I have the same situation. After downloading
the SP2 file, do I expand (unzip) it, or put it on the new CD as-is?

Thanks,
Steve
