In a small office there was
1 ADSL router
1 98 wkst for writing
1 98SE wkst for file sharing & backup
1 XP for heavy calculating & databasing
1 network printer
All above mentioned coul wotk together within LAN.
- then I brought 1 XP more for heavy calculating,
but the new machine cannot access the shared resources, that is, shared
folders
on 98SE machine although it can see the older XP and can use the newtwork
printer.Actually,
when trying "Find computer" from XP machine, it really finds nothing
belonging to 98 or the 98 himself,
but oh, I naturally can ping easily the address of 98machine. Here is smthg
too simple for me?
- Well, easy say: XP and printer are visible because theyre using
IP-protocol, but it seems
that to access those 98SE folders the new XP machine has to have NetBEUI
also ???
- So, I installed it from the CD, which came with XP machine (HP Evo 330).
It looked good, but while trying to catch to the folders, nothing happened.
From the Event Viewer I could see that XP's NetBEUI protocol somehow
collapsed or
missed a file or smthg.
- Might been smthg false in original HP NIC, so switched D-Link DFE530 ther,
but
this did not help.
Someone somewhere knows, if there is a workaround or smthing. I also made
modifications in
hosts-file and of course shutted down the XP's firewall ????
