If the loose Western Alliance of the UK, USA and a few others who never seem to get any headlines for their efforts chose to justify the invasion of Iraq on two reasons, those being: 'Sadam's a really nasty git' and 'He has weapons of mass destruction' then it looks as though we all messed up.
Weapons of mass destruction? My goodness, Sadam's elite guard had some really nasty rifles.
As for Sadam being not a terribly nice chap, that is true, which is why I initially supported the invasion.
However, things are different out there and we shouldn't really judge them by our own standards. By and large, they're mostly primitive, which is odd considering the oil wealth but greed and an obsession with building spectacular mosques soon puts pay to national income does it not?
But getting back to Bush taking the moral high ground and justifying his invasion by pointing out Sadam was not a nice fellow.
If the only reason the States needed to justify an invasion was non-righteousness, why haven't they stuck their nose in to any one of a dozen African States where human rights are being abused constantly?
I'll tell you why, all those African states where limbs are hacked off daily have no oil.
It's as simple as that.
No wonder our enemies see us as greedy hypocritical gits. Not that they're any better of course, but still...
I do like Americans, unlike a lot of my kinsmen, but Bush is a lying two-faced toadying weasel who only has his own financial interests as a major shareholder in several worldwide Oil companies at heart, and not the interests of the USA or world peace at all.
Yet still he expected us all to believe his crap.
Bush has gone now and so far, from what I can see, Obama has done bugger-all to change the situation apart from maybe he don't have lots of shares/interests in oil companies.
Or does he?

From somebody who approved the initial invasion, I want our troops sent home, too many UK guys coming home in body bags and for, from what I can see, no reason at all, the warring factions in Irag and Afghanistan want to fight - let them, the hell with the oil reserves, only the conglomerates keep us chained to buying fossil based fuels, the technology is now available to supply and sell alternative technology (see Brazil) but they are chaining us to the Middle east for 90% UK taxes.
This is the real obscenity, bloodshed and large scale rip-off of British public, makes MP's expenses look like chicken feed (which is what I've maintained all along, actually).
