I just found a "winlogon" application showing up in my startup directory. While the name is the same as the "winlogon" application in the system directory, the new one is a fraction of the size.

This new "winlogon" is dated about a week ago. Does anyone have any idea what it might be and why it would suudenly show up in the startup directory?

I would suggest that you do a virus scan, and download ad-aware and scan for
malicious programs. Most likely the name was chosen because it IS a normal
windows file...there are several viruses, trojans, keyloggers, and other baddies
that do it.

You could also open the exe file in notepad (or better yet a hex editor) and see
if there is any text inside the program that will help you identify it. A lot
of programs have the company name, original program title, or authors name in
plain text inside the file.
