New windows are always minimized

Over the last two days, each time I open a new window wither on the Interner, Word or Excel or virtually any other application it appears minimized or about 1/2 the page versus the entire full view. I have to click on the middle mazimize button on the upper right hand side of each window to full the entire screeen. Why is it now doing this?

Open such a window.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other such windows.
Close the stretched window.
