New window links not working now in IE6

Hi,

I have an HP laptop with XP Pro installed and fully patched, and in our
corporate Active Directory domain.

All of a sudden (it could have been after a winupdate patch) links that
generated a new window in IE now spawn a new window but the window stays
blank and doesn't go anywhere. Some examples are a banking website, and also
a simple website that just opened a form. It doesn't appear to be security
related as it also happened when I clicked an ad link to see what happened.
This exact problem occurred on windows 2000 and I couldn't fix it, so I
rebuilt it to windows XP and a little while later the same has occurred.

I've tried clearing history/temp files etc and resetting web settings to
default but it's had no effect.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
