New - Western Digital - Dual Option Drive

Its a series of new external drives offering both USB and Firewire and
includes a USB hub.

I am concerned about the different modes of this drive. For example, can you
enable/disable options, like backup, use of buttons, etc? Are you locked
into any particular backup program? Can you just run this as a external
drive without using backup feature. How if the performance?

I have one myself and I can simply use it as an external drive or as
backup (or even both if there's room) I don't know if it's tied to
one backup program but since it is accessed like a normal hard drive,
I think any program should work. You just on't be able to use the
button on the front to make backup as it's probably tied to Retrospect
that comes with the drive.

The overall performance on firewire is close to ATA100 drives I have
inside the PC. I don't know what USB2.0 is like as I don't have any!
