I just added another page to my website... an overview of Movie Maker
as we move toward having versions now in Me, XP and Vista

It's the 'About Movie Maker' link on the main page... here's a direct
one...

Excellent!

Thanks for the link.

thanks John... I think I'll add a 4th significant issue with Movie Maker in
XP, the crashes and hangs one... I don't know yet if it's resolved with
Vista.

Seems to me that a large majority of problems
are occurring on systems that are not fully updated
and well maintained. I doubt if this will change with
Vista or any other OS.

Happy New Year John and all....

after thinking about it some more, I added the 'crashes and hangs' issue to
my new page as a 4th one... actually the first one on the short list...

My Vista MM has been hang free as compared to the XP version. Even on a
laptop it handles the complex and memory hungary files smoothly.

I am, however, having problems with published Vista version WMV's being
incompatible with streaming servers. Converting WMV's into ASF and calling
for the file on an mms server with an asx file hangs up the server feed.
Media Player 10 and 11 report a server error. The same file edited on XP MM
works fine from streaming server.

What do you do to convert them to ASF? simply rename the extension?

Maybe I'll try one on the mydeo server... I know they stream the files I
upload but I don't know if they use asx files
