New Vista computer

H

Harry

I wish to build a new computer, suitable for Vista Business (no games),

and have selected most of the components except the graphics card,

which I prefer to be of the passive type (without a bulky cooling fan)

I am using a 24 inch Eizo monitor

Questions:

ATI or nVidia

What make and type gives a good performance

Max cost about 300 euros (400 dollars

Try the Vista NGs, they should be able to answer questions you may have.

300 euros for a non-gaming VGA card?

Just get onboard graphics, or something with onboard and a PCIE slot so you
can add a VGA card later.

It's possible you may need a DX10 compatible card in the future.

Perhaps the folks in the Vista group would be more likely to have used
the hardware you ask about in the intended environment. This group is
Windows XP operating system.

Vista questions are best asked in the Vista newsgroups, but I'll
supply a quick answer.

Either ATI or nVidia should be fine. For business, non-gaming use,
it's not necessary to spend anywhere near that amount of money. A
*much* cheaper card will do just as well.

Is your monitor LCD? Just make sure that you get a card that supports
its native resolution.
