New Virus Going Around ?

Hi,

Something really funny going on, particularly if you don't believe in
coincidences.

I'm running XP.

Two nights ago, my PC wouldn't boot, no matter what I tried.
Error msg was that a system file was corrupt.

I may have the order wrong, but it apparently was something like:

\Windows\System32\Config\

Anyway, after 2 hours on the phone with dell support, we got it going again.

Tonight a friend of mine called me that his PC had EXACTLY the same error
msg, and problem.

Is there perhaps a new Virus going around ? Or,...?

OS corruption and not a virus. Pure coincidence with your friend.

I had a similar situation after uninstalling and installing
a different firewall. But after all was said and done,
turning off the firewall did nothing. Something reall did
corrupt a system32 file, I can't remember which one.

I restored from an image backup and all was ok since. No
virus has been found by NOD32 and I don't think it was a virus.
