I have a MSI 4800se, 128 meg, 554 mem clock and 275 core clock. How come the
newer mid to high end cards don't seem to have much more speed to them?
Depends on what games you play and what you're satisfied with. The 4800SE
will do fine in DX8 games and can run high framerates at moderate
resolutions as long as you don't mind some jaggies and fuzzy textures.
But crank it up to higher resolutions, turn on antialiasing or anisotropic
filtering, or load up a DX9 game, and its age will start to show.
It still stacks up pretty well against the mid-range cards, 9600s and SEs,
for example. But put in in the ring with a 9700 Pro or 9800 XT and get ready
to count for a quick knockout.
If you're happy with it, keep it until a new game or another generation of
cards forces you to pull out your wallet.
