Hi, RobMichelle.
This question is more for ATI than for a Microsoft forum. As NoNoBadDog!
suggested, ATI has some rather arcane procedures for upgrading to newer
drivers and software for their hardware. Their instructions often forget to
mention it, but when they remember, they emphasize that the old drivers
should be removed before the new ones are installed. Experienced ATI users
often urge others to "remove everything ATI" before installing the new
drivers, MMC, DVD and any other components.
In fact, a few generations ago, it was very important to uninstall/reinstall
in just the right sequence. :>( If we installed the new MMC before our
system was upgraded to DX7 (or whatever the "new" version of DX was at the
time), we had to back up and uninstall everything AGAIN and start over. My
recent upgrades (for my AIW 9000 Pro) have gone more smoothly, but if they
hadn't, I'd be back to the uninstall-first routine again.
The first place to check on ATI problems, of course, is
www.ati.com, click
Drivers & Software, then follow the menus to get to your specific board and
Windows version. For more helpful hints from users of ATI boards, try the
Usenet newsgroup alt.comp.periphs.videocards.ati. Some real experts hang
out there.
