I have really loved the first beta version of MS
AntiSpyware.
It was running so smooth and did exactly what it was
designed to do and blocked certain spyware nasties from
getting on my machine.

Since then i used the check for updates wizard and it
installed the new version, now everything is CRAP. Read
on...

- My system summary just says protected and there are
question marks everywhere with stupid things like Spyware
Defs version 00/00/0000.

- In the first version I had approx 25 realtime
protections running now it says i only have 18 and there
are no system or application agents.

- The system explorer is now NON-EXISTANT

- And my quick stats say that i have never ran a scan
(even though i just did)
- My definitions are out of date and i last updated april
5th 2004!!!!(even though i just updated)

and the list goes on.

I want the first beta version back, i thought versions
were supposed to improve.

Come on Microsoft, we like the product, dont make us turn
to another vendor for our spyware!!!

Anyone else had similar experiences?

It *is* a beta.

Yeah, right. Run to Symantec, run to Sunbelt.
See if they'll give you a free product.

You are seeing a very wierd set of symptoms, some of which I've seen or
heard of individually, but you have an interesting total collection!

What build do you have, according to Help, about?

If it is 613, I'd recommend removing it, deleting the installation folder
(typically c:\program files\microsoft antispyware) and then downloading the
current .614 build from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A2-6A57-4C57-A8BD-DBF62EDA9671&displaylang=en

and installing that.

Seriously--for most of us, the new build is an (incremental) improvement
over the older builds--something seriously awry with your install.

If you are on .614, I'd do an update install: Control panel, add or remove
programs, Microsoft Antispyware, change, update.

I've been in a similar situation recently...
after every check for updates the program keeps updating
and installing the same spyware definitions over and
over...
you're right! i want my older version BACK!

.
I updated my software yesterday and all seems well.
Everything I had before is still there, all agents
working as usual. My update was an autoupdate from
Microsoft.

I'm somewhat computer iliterate but ever since I updated
my version- I've had nothing but probs!!! My scan keeps
saying that there are no threats detected but I have the
same threat I've always had- but at least I could keep it
semi under wraps with my scans- if anyone out there has
had probs with www.mypoiskovik.com- please help!!!!

Just an update....

Yeah, i have 1.0.614 and i am pleased to say (without me
doing anything) my anti spyware has returned to normal.

My explaination: well lets just say that i think a
program update probably came down with my spyware defs
update to fix the problems. Apart from that, its an
unknown.

Cheers to those who replied with decent comments and not
the "It is a beta" comment. You would think you cant talk
about the issues you are having just because its BETA,
what do you think Beta is for. Twit!

Cheers all

I'm glad to hear it. I don't think your explanation is likely, however--I
think it is unlikely that the code update feature has been used beyond the
full-build updates to 614 that we are seeing. On the other hand, I don't
have another explanation to offer. Did you install or update any other
software--particularly Symantec/Norton software?
