Hello Folks,

I have just setup a new user on Server 2000 copied all the details from
a known working account, (changing things like the name where
appropriate).

Set them up with a unique user folder, with the correct privallidges.

But when I come to use the username and password combination it won't
let me in.

Cheers
Darren

Difficult to diagnose without configuration information about your AD
infrastructure. For starters, make sure the DC and all client machines are
only using the internal DNS in their IP properties so it can "find" the
domain to when logging in. Do not use an ISP's DNS in any machine's IP
properties or numerous things can go wrong.

If that wasn't helpful, please post an unedited ipconfig /all of your DC and
of the client machine you are attempting to login from to better assist
you.

Instead of the website you're using, I suggest to use OEx (Outlook Express
or any other newsreader), and configure a news account, pointing to
news.microsoft.com. This is a direct link to the Microsoft Public
Newsgroups. It is FREE and requires NO ISP's Usenet account. OEx allows you
to easily find, track threads, cross-post, sort by date, poster's name,
watched threads or subject.

It's easy:

That may be the case but the user who is logging onto that machine may be
logging on with cached credentials, so that doesn't necessarily mean that the
computer has a good connection to the domain. Follow Ace's advice and check
your ipconfig to ensure that DNS is correctly configured.

In order to look further into this we would need ipconfig /all from both the
client and the DC. dcdiag /v from the DC netdiag /v from the DC and the
verbatim error message the user receives when trying to logon.
