I just did a reinstall of windows xp and everything working well. Then I
tried to set up a new user for my wife and I get this blue screen with a
dialogue window topleft that reads " Setting up personalized settings for
Internet Explorer 6" This window sits there doing something I guess, but I
leave comeback and it is still there. I don't even want internet explorer but
I can't seem to be able to get rid of that either.
Any suggestions?

bob, i'm assuming you've been good and get all the security patches and
critical updates? if you do, than one of them added certain
auto-installing for IE when a new profile is created. so every time a
new profile is initiated, you'll see that IE pop-up. I'm not sure why
it is hanging there; should just do its thing and press on. Try
creating the profile with your network cable/phone line unplugged (or
plug it in if it already wasn't). Sometimes that helps. Also, you
might consider Firefox as your web browser...free and fun to use, and
you can set it as default yet still keep IE in case you need to go back
to it.

Never seen this, not in hundreds of Windows installs. Just wondering if it
might be some parasite that's hitched a ride on IE. Perhaps unlikely if it's
a fresh install, mind you. Could do no harm to run Ad-Aware over it though.
