New updates deleted audio mixers

I allowed all 4 of the new updates to install (but not the 2 office related
ones) and after reboot volume control was not there.
sysroot\sys32\volume.exe is gone as well as record.exe.

I rebooted and regained sound but with no controls (except through WMP),
even the one supplied with my creative SB mx 400 card won't launch.

I get a windows error message attempting to open any sound mixer saying
"There are no active devices available. To install mixer, go to control
panel...then click Add Hardware'.

I went through device manager and everything looks OK , even creative SB
audio mixer is listed as installed and working fine...has anyone else found
this issue? I don't know what else to do.

You have a possible two probs. to be answered - one where you are linking
recent updates to sound loss etc and the other re a hardware prob.
You have posted in newsgroups windowsxp.general.
You may get a better response by posting in either updates or hardware.

Good luck

thanks antioch,

After another reboot the audio mixers worked again.
Windows keeps freezeing and there are problems with my "modified shell"
(royale theme) so I think it might all be caused by a corrupted user profile.

But that's another forum newsgroup...
