You haven't played with SwishPix yet?

I like what you've done, haven't had enough time to read it all yet.

Explain SwiftPix, please. Link? Why is it good?

It's the new one from Swish, Jim Cheshire reviewed it on his site a few weeks ago.

It's pretty cool. I've messed with it a little bit...very easy. 30day trial, I think its 25 bucks to own. Creates Flash gallery...really simple. Of course people like Bob L., who don't have flash installed won't be able to use it :-)...sorry Bob.

I hope I have time to mess with it more before my trial period expires. Check it out.

My host offers that one for 140 bucks installed. Absolute has some other useful programs as well.

Are you using the gallery?

Rob,

I have an installation planned this week for a client, but it will be the
first time I have used it.

Since the site is for a State Senator, they needed a dynamic gallery that
was far more flexible than a static gallery, especially during their
re-election campaign.

Lemme know how it goes.

Which state?

Shouldn't be hard at all it produces a .swf file (flash)...I would suppose you'd Import and insert it the same as for any flash file. I've not done it yet into FP so couldn't tell ya exactly.

nah, not interested in politics...it was just curious because I know one state senator up in the NW.

Thanks, I',ll try it

Eleanor,

I am glad you made it to Australia again, and you took some great photos.

I would like to have a selection as good as yours, but
1) My photography isn't as good
2) I need to be discriminating - a few good photos is better than many
mediocre ones
3) I would like good presentation

Re your article, I thought they were all very good points and I will bear
them in mind

I have one very tiny point to make about the slide show, say
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/LeGrandSlideShow/index.html

In my browser 800 *600, I cannot see both the entire picture and the
navigation buttons (well text, actually) without scrolling

In my feeble attempts (see Picture Album on my site), I have tried, for the
Slideshows, to get everything on the screen by using 600*400 (horizontal
format) or 500*333 (vertical format). With 500 depth, I can just fit the
picture, a caption and navigation buttons.

I am now thinking it may be better to use text rather than buttons - then I
might get a bit more space for the navigation.

BTW, I present my album so that the entire page is thumbnails (65*65), any
one of which can give a larger picture, as well as grouping them into slide
shows. (Of course, the entire page could be made into one slide show). Do
you think this is a good idea?

One other point re your site,
I wasn't sure at first what Home and End meant. I used the terms First and
Last in my Slideshow

P.S. I wrote this without reading the other comments, so I wouldn't be
biased

What have I left out? ... any other suggestions and ideas?
Thank you, Eleanor

I choose Polesoft Lockspam to fight spam, and you?

Trevor: Thanks for your comments. And it was fun visiting your site to see
some of the same places I have visited. My only comment is that I wish the
thumbnails were larger and I didn't have to scroll down through so many ...
light houses, for example.
I tried the Cape LeGrand show with my monitor set at 800 x 600 and certainly
see what you mean. Both of my 21" monitors are set at 1152 x 864. That seems
to be best of my aging eyesight! I guess I haven't given enough
consideration to users with 800 x 600 settings.
The article was written while thinking more about just how I want to present
my work ... in other words ....have I made the correct choices. There are so
many slide shows on my site and no two are probably alike! If you read the
first article and looked at all the examples you'll see what I mean. I
haven't even begun to try to be consistent over the whole site. For this
past trip to OZ I did however choose a consistent format and gave quite a
bit of thought to the style of presentation. It couldn't be much simpler ...
maybe its almost too sparse.
Thank you again,
Eleanor
Next year I want to come back and do the Gibb River Road - Broome to Darwin.

Eleanor,
Thanks for replying

There are actually two albums on my site. The top part of Picture Album is a
link to a commercial site (well semi-commercial - they support up to
250Mbytes free) Lighthouses is on this site

The part which I put together is the rest labelled with the buttons
Slideshow - Family
Slideshow - Overseas Trip
Slideshow - Australian War Memorial
The thumbnails in this are 65*65. I wonder are these too small - it gives a
good spread of 8 across the page, but each is small.

I was quite happy with your presentation of the Australian trip - not too
sparse at all. I will see if I can do likewise. I just need to fit it all on
800*600 - I can use larger, but my wife doesn't like 1024*768 let alone
1280*1024 which is the largest my 17" monitor will go to.

BTW, the lighthouses are all my wife's - I will show her your Australian
collection, I see there are a few lighthouses there

Do you like the echidna warning. Some 40 years she and her sister had
something to do with getting a kangaroo sign put up in NW Victoria,
supposedly the first. It has grown from there.
