New to XP networking

I am trying to network my desktop and my laptop together
(both WinXp). I have a cable modem which is connected to
my Linksys wireless router. The internet on both
computers works great. On my laptop I went through the
home networking wizard and did everything that it told me
to do.
On my laptop I can see the "workgroup" and it has both
my desktop and laptop listed. However, if I click on the
desktop icon it says that the network path cannot be
found. And vice versa on my laptop. All I really want to
do is share the printer out (connected to the desktop) and
both hard drives. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Hi,

The most common cause of this type of problem is related to security. When
one machine tries to access the other, it sends over the username and
password of the logged-on user. If that username and password matches an
account that the machine being accessed (server) has, you will be able to
see what that user is allowed to see. If not, you could see the error you
are getting (Access Denied errors are another possibility).

You can control user accounts via Control Panel / User Accounts. Check to
see names of the accounts that are on each. If the Guest account is
disabled, you might try enabling it on each system. When trying to connect
to a server, if the logged-on credentials fail, the client will try to use
the username 'guest' with a blank password.

If you have a username on one machine that doesn't exist on the other, add
it on the second machine and give it the same password that is assigned on
the first. Keep in mind, though, that if you change your password down the
road you will need to change it for the account on the other machine as
well.

Thanks for the help, Michael.
For some reason, this workgroup access doesn't "work" for
me. I have Win XP Pro and Win 2K Pro machines, with same
accounts, identical passwords. Win XP does not have
firewall enabled on the connection. Both have NetBios over
TCP/IP , File and Print sharing enbled, Client for MSoft
Networks installed. The workgroup name is identical on
both PCs... Yet, I can browse Win 2k machine from Win XP
but not the other way around. When I try to open Win xp
machine in 'computers near me' from Win 2k computer (the
same happens when I drill down through workgroup), I get
the following: \\computer_name is not accessible. Logon
failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon
type at this computer. What am I missing?) Thanks a lot.
