I'm getting a notification that there were "problems" when starting and I
should view the Eevent Log, which I do.

The problem appears to be a program named WMEnc.exe hanging. Problems is I
can't seem to find any file with that name nor can I find any reference to
same in the registry etc. I suspect it is/was part of Windows Media Encoder
7.1 as the 7.1 is part of the event log info so surely not just happen
instance. I have deleted/removed Windows Media Encoder as part of trying to
figure out what's going on.

Any insight appreciated, tia, pjp.

Have you tried this?

Click Start and select Run

Type in msconfig and click OK

Click Startup tab and look for WMEnc.exe or Windows Media Encoder and
if you find it, click on the tick next to it to deslect it then click
OK

Oh yea, and even searched thru the registry to no avail. However as I'm new
to XP I now thin it was a "dated" entry remaining from prior to uninstalling
WMEncoder.

I do have another problem also that seems to be centered around an epson
file eplpdx02.exe failing to start as a service. I've drilled down thru this
problem and it appears to be some "monitoring" program of asome sort.
However, same problem as with prior Wme.exe problem, e.g. I'll be damned if
I can find where it's being "started".

All expected. If I can figure it all out I'll probably then clean both hd's
off, fdisk and reformat and just install XP. For now the dual-boot is an
"easy to fix" experiment..
