Hi
Learned computers with the first Dos, advanced from there... now I am over my head. I have a new Windows XP Professional setup with no manual. The folders make no sense to me... I am also fairly new at using the Internet. Does anyone know where I might find some really basic explanations of how and why XP is so different on-line, or the name of a good reference book I might find at the book store? I have been struggling for 3 days and haven't gotten very far... but then I sat in front of my first computer for 3 days trying to figure out what to do with that black screen with a C:\ on it.
Thanks to anyone who has a suggestion... I'm about to go back to Win98 again.

Seriously - try the dummies books. Or the 24-7, I think they are by
SAMS publishing.

Start button>Settings>Task Bar and Start Menu Properties>Start Menu tab. Select "Classic Start Menu". This will make XP more Win98-like. You can also go to Help & Support on the Start menu, type in .. tutorial .. for the search and take the Tour.

Thank you, Brad, I've had the Dummies books before, just have gone brain-dead lately
Thank you, Pavey... I took the tour... had to do the writing version as the old ears gave out a while ago and wasn't able to grasp the difference. I will try the Classic Start... just to get started and can move on from there
Thank you, Mike... the url will definitely go in my Favorites... I feel I will need it for awhile

Thanks to all of you... since I spend most of my time on the computer, I needed some help to slow my stress down..

Louise,
The best thing I can recommend is going to www.google.com and doing a search on "Windows XP Tutorial" and make sure you use the quotation marks. There you will find a long list of information to choose from.
Good Luck!
