New to Windows XP home

With Windows 98, I used to be able to "right click" and
choose-"Save as". I's save it as a BMP.
Now when I go to view it, it says -No preview and no
progam will open it.
I have the option to go to the web for help, but it can't.
What's up? Do I have to configue something?
 
Right click on the file and choose a program to open it
with. Pick one that can use that file type. Now in the
program when it is open you can choose the file type to
save it. Hope this helps
