New to Vista - Can't set network configuration

Hi,

I just installed Vista CTP (Feb 2006) on a machine I just finished
building (MSI K8NGM2-FID) with an Athlon 64 3000+.

The installation seems to have gone ok, but I need to set my network
adapter to 10Mbps Full Duplex instead of Auto-Negotiate. I can get to
the Network -> Configuration -> Advanced settings, but whenever I try to
select media type and the dropdown box for 10Mbps Full Duplex, etc., the
whole network applet vanishes before I can click on OK.

Anyone have an idea of what I might be doing wrong, or how I can do
this?

Thanks,
Jim

Andre,

Do you mean to just create another (administrator?) account and then try
it?

What is "UAP"?

Jim

Hi,

Problem on top of problem :(...

I *CAN'T* create a new user account. If I go to Control Panel -> User
Accounts -> Manage -> Create New Account, this appears to cause an
"Explorer Restarting"!!

Jim

Yeh, once it gets to something like the Control Panel crashing or just
browsing files, that's a duff install. Ditto to Andre - my network settings
were so much easier set up in 5342 than 5308, however I still use the
XP-style settings (from the Run command) because I'm not a huge fan of the
Network Center!

Hi,

I'm not 100% sure if what I did fixed things, but I did some tweaking of
the "UAP" and now the Configuration dialog no longer "vanishes".

Jim

Zack,

I'm new to this whole Vista thing, so pardon if this is a dumb
question. I got Vista from MSDN subscription. Are the Vista CTP
releases "behind" wherever you all got them (beta program?)? The latest
CTP release when I looked yesterday was 5308.

Thanks,
Jim

The latest MSDN build is 5308.
The latest TechNet Plus build is 5231.
The latest Technical Tester build is 5342...

.... and yep, all the previous builds are still available for download on
Connect :o)
