I am new to using pivot tables in excel 2003. Right now I need to change
some pivot tables. The person who setup the pivot tables at my company no
longer works for the small company I am working at.
Right now the pivot table I want to change, is intended to have a blank
line between each category that is summarized (totals) amounts. However what
is happeing, the part where a 'category value would be in blank. However ,
the totals from the preceding line show up are showing up in the rest of the
blank lines.
Re sults currently look like:
'house total 500 250 850'
'car total 160 175 199'
' 160 175 199'.

I want the results to look like:
'house total 500 250 850'
'car total 160 175 199'
' '
in the 2003 excel pivot table.

Thus can you tell me what I can do to change the pivot table line from
' 160 175 199'.
to being
' '. instead?

Thanks!

I'll try... (sorry for my poor english)

- right button in your pivot table
- something like "table options..."
- uncheck the first checkbox (something like "ColumnGrand")

Thank you for your response but that did not solve my problem. The problem
only occurs for some lines in the pivot tables.

Do you know which fields are in the Row area, the Column area and the
Data area? There should be grey buttons with the field names, and a grey
Data button.

To create a blank row, double-click the button for the car/house field
Click Layout, and add a check mark to 'Insert blank line after each
item', then click OK, twice.

It looks like you have an extra item though, that's a duplicate of
another item.

Thanks for your answer so far! You said 'It looks like you have an extra
item though, that's a duplicate of another item.'
The following is the part you are referring to:
' 160 175 199'.

However can you tell me how I can get rid of this extra line that is showing
data like
the above? Remember this is in a pivot table.

Thanks!

The duplicate entry may be in the source data. Do you know where that
is, and can you check it to see if there are rows with cells that appear
blank in the column where home and auto are entered?

Debra Dalgleish:
I am not certain for the source data is in pivot tables? Can you tell me how
to know where the source data is located at?

I do know that I was told to copy and paste the data into the excel tabs
called
called 'detail' after running sql server query analyzer. I was also told the
'tabs' called 'summary' are where the pivot tables are located and I just
needed to right
click the pivot table wizard and it would 'summarize' my data.

Thanks!
