I just downloaded RC1 and burnt to disk with Nero 6.....verified data after
burn.....good to go, (this is the 64 bit version by the way) and put CD in
drive and says setup can't run on this version of windows....fine.....reboot
and try to boot from disk and system hangs at 100% windows loading files.
HELP!!!

Regarding your first problem - you can't install the 64-bit version of Vista
unless you're already running a 64-bit version of Windows. You will need to
use the 32-bit version of Vista if you want to upgrade.

Regarding your second problem, re-burn the CD at the lowest possible speed
your burner and discs support.

Hi, Quadracer.

As Richard said, you'll have to be already booted into 64-bit Windows
(either WinXP or Vista) to run 64-bit Vista Setup. Or boot from the Vista
x64 DVD to run Setup.

It's a hardware thing. You can't install 64-bit from 32-bit - or vice
versa. And, of course, your CPU, etc., must be 64-bit to install any 64-bit
OS.

I don't know why Setup would hang at loading files if you booted from the
DVD. More details about your system might help us help you on that part.

hmmm you seem to be on to something and I am ignorant......can you explain to
me how I would go about switching to a 64 bit OS from a 32 bit? I know my
hardware is capable......also I used "burn image to disk" option in Nero at
lowest speed with verify data after burn.....disk is good......again, HELP!

Ok, PC stats are as follows:

MOBO: ASUS A8N-SLI w/ 4GB RAM
Vid Card: Dual EVGA GeForce 6600GT's
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+
HDD: 60GB Western Digital
Sound Card: MOBO internal

thanks for the help

You might want to disable one of your gpus before install. Currently
SLI/Crossfire isn't supported, and is known to be the cause of failed
installs.

I fixed it!!!!
If anyone is having this problem....disable the DRAM 4GB Re-mapping in
BIOS.....worked for me.

You can't "switch" from 32-bit Windows to 64-bit Vista or vice-versa. If
you have a second hard drive or partition you can install a "clean" copy of
Vista but if not then it's wipe and install time. There's no other way to
do it.
