New to newsgroups, please direct to basics tutorial

I am new to newsgroups, can someone tell me where I can read a great summary
and learn how to search and where the best boards are for windows xp-- here
is a specific question, when I synchronize with this board, it says there
are only 290 posts, there have to be way more than that, so is it a setting
or something that needs to be modified in my express?

Sounds as if the *newsreader* you are using *defaults* to that number
of messages . What *reader* are you using ?
 
I am using outlook express, also , do you have any ideas on where I can find
a tutuorial?

I`m using Agent , also using RSSBANDIT for RSS feeds (it also handles
newsgroups ) ; but if you use a newsreader, they usually come with
their own helpfile ( tutorial )
