Hi all,

I am getting a Dell Dimension XPS with an ATI 9800XT. Is this the lastest
and greatest video card that ATI produces?

no i believe the 9800 pro is the fastest.

It is...for the next couple of months at least, after which a new generation
of much faster video cards will be coming out. Two to three times faster if
you believe what has been said. Isn't it fun buying technology and then
having news like this thrown at you? :-)

Yes, buy new technology and it will be obsolete in 6 weeks. :-)

A bit like the nVidia FX range being the fastest things on the planet ?

Hey, I knew the GeForce FX series was a bust right from the start. :-) The
way nVidia's PR department went berserk after ATI released it's 9700 Pro
told me a lot too.

For sure, benchmarks will tell. That's why I said, "...if you believe what
has been said". It has been widely speculated on the web that 2x to 3x
times is possible. But we will see.

1 - 9800XT = waste of money.

2 - DELL = a Piece of Shit

3 - You can do better now with a $200 ATI9800Pro for now, cause in 2-3
months, the new ATi card will be on the market and is likely to be
twice as fast (many indications point that way)... and will cost the
same or less than the 9800XT.

4 - A decent PC can be built for less with an AMD64 bit CPU... even
the $225 AMD64 3000 (CPU) is sometimes faster than Intels P4-EE
(Extreme Edition - reality = modifed repackaged XEON chip) thats about
$900~1000... And that is WITHOUT WindowsXP 64... in which a beta
version has shown performane boosts of 10~20% (its still beta - so
some things is slower) on the same CPU.
