It can be changed from 60hz (default) upto 75hz. The Samsung I had would go
up to 85hz.
Changing refresh rate is noticeably different. If I put it in 75hz there is
a very slight flicker that is enough to be annoying. If I put the monitor
in 60hz then games seem to be slightly jerky. Although this is probably down
to running games at 1280x1024 in 32bit colour.
Anyhow it is definitely changeable and does make a difference even on a
TFT.
I've noticed a slight flicker perception at 60hz and run mine at 75hz. I'm
very sensitive to flicker; that's why I switched to a LCD and it has
relieved 90% of my eyestrain over a CRT. It takes 3 days to get the same
eyestrain as with the CRT and that is normal eyestrain like from reading too
much, not the seasick dizziness the CRT produced.
I can only speculate that the 60hz "flicker" is somewhat more noticeable to
the human eye than 75hz, if you look a light bulb you can sometimes see the
flicker at 60hz, especially a fluorescent. So that if the LCD is changing
rapidly, you could notice it. But there is no flicker due to persistence of
vision in LCD, pixels stay on until they are told to turn off.
I think the 16ms LCDs control parts of the screen at different times and
that may result in the perception of flicker, but I don't have one, so
cannot really say if that is perceptible.
Although I would have preferred a DVI connector, I cannot see that it would
have made much difference. The display is as sharp as could imagine without
it.
