I've just installed Vista onto a newly-built PC (a blank hard drive).
Everything proceeded smoothly, until the last reboot: The desktop flashed
momentarily on screen, then the screen went blank. I rebooted, without the
installation disk, and it booted to the desktop, but the screen immediately
went blank. Pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE restores the screen display for me. It
seems that the culprit is the Welcome window, which is set to open at each
boot. I was able to disable the Welcome window, and reboot normally.
However, when I open the Welcome window manually, the screen immediately goes
blank, and CTRL-ALT-DELETE is required to restore the screen display. How
can I correct the problem that the Welcome window is seemingly creating?
(all other processes and functions appear to be operating normally)
