First off Outlook 2002 and WinXP Pro. All pop3 based mail.
The user had problems with not being able to see her contacts when composing
a message. Easy enough right? Just add the check box you say? So I did and
it sort of worked. The problem was that she was now seeing 3 "Contacts"
folders to choose from. So I went into the mail tab and removed an old PST
file. Now Outlook refused to open. So I made a new copy of the current PST
file, added it as a personal folder, made it the default delivery location,
removed the old 'good' pst file and deleted all the contacts from the
"Address Books and Directories" in the mail settings. After all, it was
still showing 3 seperate contacts folders that were available.
Now the PST will open just fine and mail is sent and recieved no problem.
BUT I still cannot add the contacts as an address book, well mostly. I have
removed and resinstalled the Outlook address book service and I have checked
the box under properties, yet the entry "Personal Folders:Contacts" never
appears in the "Address Books and Directories settings. ARGGGH. And I say
mostly because if I do the check box on the contacts folder properties, it
all works properly... until Outlook is restarted. So perhaps all I need is a
reg hack to force it to keep the change? If so where in blazes is this kept?
My next step may be to delete the Outlook profile and start fresh or
possible try a repair of the Office install.
TIA
