New Server, how to transfer users/permissions?

I have a new server I am setting up to replace an old one.
Both run windows 2000 server.

Is there a file that I can copy from the old server to the
new server that will transfer all my "Users" with there
related security (so I don't have to hand type it all back
in)?

When I copy my Files/Folders from my old server to my new
server, will the Shares and Permissions copy over with
them?

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi mate,

What I would recommend would be to setup the new server on
the same domain as the old one, and depending on the o/s
version either setup the new server as a bdc or
equivalent, this way when you take the old server offline
all your user rights etc etc should be on the new server.

Without knowing your config in detail hard to say, but
this should do the trick.

Thanks for the advice, but we are not in a domain. It is
a stand-alone server.

Any more advice?

Assuming a domain in effect, add the new server as a DC in the domain,
then it pulls users and groups and other account info automatically.
Use DCPROMO and demote the old DC when you're ready to remove it.

As for permissions, there are migration tools which should help, but I
usually take this opportunity to clean up all the organizational crap
that crepyt into the network. I move data files and set permissions
on the new system appropriately. This is assuming a reasonable amount
of data of course. You can easily migrate over time if both servers
can run concurrently.

Can this be done to migrate accounts from a win2000 server to a win2003
server?

Thanks
