Has anyone installed this new app? Downloading it right now myself.

Security developer Prevx today released a free version of its host-based
intrusion prevention software with the aim of offering consumers
protection from new, unknown or zero-day threats. Prevx Home is designed
to close the security gap that exists between when a fast spreading
internet worm is released and when updated signatures from AV vendors
become available.

A handful of "so far, so good" posts over on grc. Also a couple of
warnings to be sure and disable the program when doing *any* kind of
installation whatsoever.

I'll be checking it out myself.

Anyone have a link to the file or what it's called? Don't fancy having to 'sign
up' to get it.

Can't you just use a disposable email address?

Hi Pat,

Just after I had uninstalled Ewitok AT because of unacceptable behavior
with a false positive, I read Aaron's post (Thanks Aaron) mentioning
the program.

Downloaded it, installed it... and it is running nice and quiet in the
system tray, so far no signs of any activity. I ran the program that
caused the false positive (which is a commercial remote support program
that will run under all Win OSes) and PrevX behaved like I could
expect... no false positive!

BTW: You did notice that it is in Beta? It immediately updated itself
quite strongly, but so far...no incidents! System load of the program
is neglectable... on my system (with its limited RAM and many
simultaneously running tasks I don't see any decreasing in system
performance (to be honest: I have the impression it runs better <LOL>).

Really? I was aware of this Prevx for a while already, but I only posted
it, when it went out of beta.

Pat, Aaron, Hi!

@Aaron: Yep, they give a warning on the page AFTER the registration...
But they also tell you that when an update comes you'll get it (BTW,
only two out of three options work (Check the image in the Main
Console), but they are very powerful.

@Pat: Try to get into "System", and then the "Hardware Manager"... At
least I don't have to afraid of that <LOL>.

@All: The program, after a few hours of running it, seems to be an
extended "WinPatrol"; extend in keeping Spyware/Hijacks and other
nasties out of your system, while at the same time protecting the
precious registry very efficiently! No crashes so far (As a matter of
fact... I have the idea that the system runs smoother since it was
installed... but that could be just me <grin>.)

Hmm, the third option is the "pro" option.

I'm personally sick of software that monitor your IE's BHO, homepage,
search assistant etc, lots of software do these nowdays. Most also claim to
protect your startup entries monitor critcial files etc.

I was curious about Prevx mainly because it claims to protect your from
buffer overflows, the same claim that XP SP 2. But this claim is a little
difficult to test.
