Need to get a new SatNav as mine failed a bit in London yesterday.
OK it is 3 years old & i have never updated the maps on it.
But it is now getting a bit temperamental at times & the sound does not work very loud.
Looking at TomTom via PCWorld and would like Europe included, mainly France.
Some do offer free lifetime map upgrades that would be good.
But not really into the annual updates for £46 on a SatNav costing under £150.

So which one to go for?
Price range under £150.

Tomtom offer a free update I think out of box. Not sure how long you get to claim it though

I only update mine every 3 years or so. Not failed me yet :)

Do you not have a smartphone Feckit

There are lots of Smartphone satnav apps that all work really very well..

Tomtom have one although it is expensive for an app

There are others out there that are equally as good as the Tomtom app, notably Sygic and also copilot that do a fair job too.
Google nav is free and comes with most smartphones although its not as good as the paid nav apps, one particular one that is very good and completely free is M8 available on the Playstore and is almost as good as Sygic and Tomtom apps..

Standalone satnavs days are numbered to be honest as most smartphones are far more powerful and update screens quicker than the Standalones.

If you don't have a smartphone then disregard all I have said, and go for this

My trusty A - Z has never let me down. But I suppose living in London for 20 years also helps :D

I've lived in London all my life except for two brief forays (3 years & 1 year) to Sidcup and Cornwall and the trusty A-Z has always been good enough for me. And if I'm travelling I just buy an area map from the garage.

From what I can see most Satnavs send you all round the houses and often the long way round. Or they'll send you straight into the heart of rush hour traffic or worst of all they send out of towners right through London's congestion fee zone. I've seen that happen and some people cop a fine for not paying a congestion fee they were completely unaware of.

And, as this thread illustrates, they break down. Granted, paper maps are out of date after a few years or so but they're cheap.

I'm all for a Sat Nav - I've not looked back since we got one! If you do lots of different journeys, I wouldn't do without one :).

Until recently we had a TomTom One and loved it, however we bought a Garmin Nuvi 2595LMT a few months back as we could use it when visiting family in Europe (and saves us having to get one with rental car). It came with free lifetime map updates and traffic alerts, which is what appealed over the TomTom competitor units.

However..... the traffic alerts are a mixed bag. It's not as clever as the TomTom traffic guidance, which is probably why it's free. However the maps are good and it has done the job for us.

Ours was £150 so fits within your budget, but I'm cautious to recommend it because if you're just doing UK driving then I probably preferred our much cheaper TomTom!

Currys was a good place to go test all the units out, as they usually have stands for TomTom and Garmin demo units.

Going to have to look in to this a bit more!
Yes, FBS i do prefer the A-Z, but when in Central London it's difficult reading a map & drive at the same time, even though cabs seem to do it ok!! SatNav did play up, but after trying it out again all seems ok.
Think i will do the research and look at one that meets my my needs.
Thanks for the links Ian.
