Hi All,

I am connected to the internet most of the time and recently since the
addition of a Linksys router the connection is getting dropped frequently
(several times a day). I try refreshing the system but it still happens.
My Speedstream 5200 modem is plugged into the wall and is then connected to
the router (wireless WRT54G) which is then connected to the computer. Also
have SIP Phone adapter on the router as well.
What could be causing this?
I've got SP2 and High speed connection if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Policy change perhaps ? Maybe the ADSL provider is dropping the connection
when inactivity is detected. Try opening a command window, and use something
like this:

ping -t groups.google.com

That will send an ICMP ping once per second, until you press <control-C>.
Maybe with some traffic like that going through the ADSL link, the link
will stay up.

An alternative is the "keep alive" function in your WRT54G, for PPPOE.
You should be able to find that in the manual.

And I'm sure if you phone your ISP's Tech Support, they'll play all
innocent, like "we'd never drop your connection, sir". So you'll have
to do your own detective work.
