Hello,
i bought a new MoBo and a new vid card to find that my old dell case doesnt
fit it so iam gona buy a new case but another problem raised, the mobo is
1xIDE and 4xSATA when i have 2cd-rom devices and 1HD and all of them are IDE
can some one recomend a nice HD for SATA or give me some general advice on
what to do.

Thank you
Alex

Mobo come in form factors like ATX...........and so do cases. You need to
find out the form factor of your mobo so that you can buy a case that the
mobo will fit into. The motherboard tray in the case is made to fit the holes
on the motherboard which you screw onto the tray by means of stand offs that
will usually come with the case. Then the back of the case also needs to
match those parts of the mobo that stick out of the case....
Next comes the power supply...not all PSU have SATA drive power
connectors...but most SATA drives also take the molex connectors that an IDE
drive uses.Check your PSU to make sure you have enough power and
connectors.Dell sometimes use PSU that just work on their systems.
Next comes the SATA cables that connect the drives to the mobo. One connector
per drive per connection. They are usually labelled #1 and #2......your mobo
manual will tell you which is bootable.
Next comes SATA drivers that usually need to be installed during the XP
install but only from a floppy drive.XP will not look for them anywhere
else.So you need to copy them from the CD that came with your mobo to a
floppy and during the install XP will ask if you are installing onto a HD
other than IDE and to push F6 and insert the floppy.
Now for SATA drives....Seagate and Western Digital make some nice ones in
various sizes.Nowaday there is SATA 1 and SATA 2. At the present time there
is not much difference between the 2 and ver 2 will work on a SATA-1 board.
A 120gb Seagate can be had for around $95.00 Canadian....no idea in US$

A new mobo brings a million things into play...will your RAM fit?? Does your
new Vid card require a seperate power connection?? will your present
processor fit?? how will you be cooling the new case? When removing the heat
sink from the CPU and before you reseat it be sure to clean of the old
thermal compound and apply new compound.
If you unsure of how to proceed to a Google on PC Build and you will get
lots of websites that explain it in detail with pictures and a few with
video.

post back if you have any questions
