While investigating a minor software issue, I ran Sysinternals' REGMON and
discovered that Microsoft has introduced a new 'Zones' value:
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3]
"1207"=dword:00000003
This had not existed in the past, as verified by searching prior Registry
dumps, and probably was introduced with last Tuesday's update. Its value is
0 for Zones 0 thru 2 and is 3 (disable, presumably) for Zones 3 and 4. This
setting is also in the five HKLM Lockdown Zones, with ALL zones disabled, but
it is not in the USER portion of the Registry. Its occurrence here seemed to
be related to running RealPlayer after a 'smil' file was downloaded.
Nothing on Microsoft and MSDN sites explains this setting. Can someone clue
us in?
