Hi Perky,

We all had to start somewhere, using OE makes it easier to keep track of your posts
etc.
Have fun, don't hesitate to post any questions, just try and give as much detail as
you can so you can get assistance quickly.

I have been using OE for news groups since I got my new computer.
I used Netscape for years and found it to be easier for me.
Here are the problems I have with OE:

1. How do you get the posts to download chronologically with time posted?
2. How do you setup so that when posts are read they go away when you close
and not reappear when you open again?
3. How do you go back to read old posts that you might want to read again?
4. What is the difference in one click or two when opening a post?

I could do all of those things with Netscape.

TIA

You may have a popup blocker and the first box looks like a popup to the
system. The answer box may not look like one. It all depends on the
JavaScript.

thanks for that. this problem has only just started,i have been advised to
use OE which is what i am getting used to now.thanks again

1. What?
All my posts are in chronological order and have the date and time posted.

2. Go to View>Hide read messages, hide read or ignored messages.

3. Go to view> show all messages, or if you only want to see messages you
have downloaded, 'show downloaded messages, or if you only want to see your
replies, 'show my replies'

4. One click shows the immediate message that you are viewing, two click
brings up a new box that has an up and down arrow on the tool bar, which
allows you to scroll thru all expanded posts simply by clicking in what ever
order you want to view the posts, ( next, previous) .

It's not a matter of downloading chronologically, it's a matter
of sorting the messages in date/time order. To sort in any order
you want, click on the header of the field you want to sort on.
Click on it a second time to reverse the sequenvce (ascending vs.
descending). You should click on the "Sent" field header. If the
"Sent" field isn't visible, see below.

with time
posted?

On the menu bar, click on View | Columns and choose the fields
you want displayed and change their order as desired.

2. How do you setup so that when posts are read they go away
when
you close and not reappear when you open again?

On the menu bar, click on View | Current View, and click "Hide
Read Messages."

You also may want to click on View | Layout and choose to keep
the Views Bar on the screen to facilitate changing this

3. How do you go back to read old posts that you might want to
read
again?

Change View | Current View to "Show All Messages."

Again, I recommend the Views Bar, which makes it easy to change
back and forth.

4. What is the difference in one click or two when opening a
post?

I'm not sure what you're asking here. Perhaps you mean that a
single click shows the message in the Preview Pane (if you're set
to show the preview pane) and a double-click actually opens the
message.

I could do all of those things with Netscape.

That's fine. If you prefer Netscape, then use it. Others prefer
Agent, or any of the several other newsreaders available. I
happen to prefer Outlook Express, but we don't all have to prefer
the same product.

Thanks Ken

I did load and setup Netscape. I had numerous problems with my computer.
After one Dell advisor told me MSN did not support Netscape I uninstalled it
and never had the several major problems again.
