I have been using OE for news groups since I got my new
computer.
I used Netscape for years and found it to be easier for me.
Here are the problems I have with OE:
1. How do you get the posts to download chronologically
It's not a matter of downloading chronologically, it's a matter
of sorting the messages in date/time order. To sort in any order
you want, click on the header of the field you want to sort on.
Click on it a second time to reverse the sequenvce (ascending vs.
descending). You should click on the "Sent" field header. If the
"Sent" field isn't visible, see below.
On the menu bar, click on View | Columns and choose the fields
you want displayed and change their order as desired.
2. How do you setup so that when posts are read they go away
when
you close and not reappear when you open again?
On the menu bar, click on View | Current View, and click "Hide
Read Messages."
You also may want to click on View | Layout and choose to keep
the Views Bar on the screen to facilitate changing this
3. How do you go back to read old posts that you might want to
read
again?
Change View | Current View to "Show All Messages."
Again, I recommend the Views Bar, which makes it easy to change
back and forth.
4. What is the difference in one click or two when opening a
post?
I'm not sure what you're asking here. Perhaps you mean that a
single click shows the message in the Preview Pane (if you're set
to show the preview pane) and a double-click actually opens the
message.
I could do all of those things with Netscape.
That's fine. If you prefer Netscape, then use it. Others prefer
Agent, or any of the several other newsreaders available. I
happen to prefer Outlook Express, but we don't all have to prefer
the same product.
