New Question: Error Message and Drive Letters

OK, here’s my next question.
This question involves a Gateway desktop that I have been using for over
a year.

For about a week, every time I boot, I get an error message a few
seconds after everything loads. The error message says:

This system just recovered from a serious error
(or something similar to that)

Clicking for details reveals:

I can pinpoint the exact thing that I did before the errors began: I
had difficulty unmounting a Jump Drive using “Safely Remove Hardware”.
Each time I tried the option it refused, telling me that some program
was still using the drive (none that I knew of – all programs were
closed). I ended up rebooting the system and was then able to unmount
the Jump Drive. The problem began after that.

Simultaneous to this I noticed that some of my drive letters had
changed. For instance, my external hard drive was now using the letter
that had previously been assigned to the Jump Drive every time I mounted it.

The error does not interfere with the functioning of the computer. I
simply click “OK” and all is well. But it is annoying and I am
concerned that some other problem may arise because of this.

I did a System Restore to the earliest available point which was only
five days earlier but which I thought was one or two days before the
problem arose. Doing this did not solve the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem?
 
Hi,

Click start/run, type "chkntfs /d" (without the quotes) and click ok. The
system has a dirty bit set and this should clear it.
