Before i have even used it it is possibly out of date.

I have a Thermaltake PurePower Butterfly 480W psu

Just read that to use the upcoming x1900 series of grpahics cards from ati, you will need at least 30A from your psu! When i bought it in September, i thought it would be more than enough with 18A on the 12 volt rail. Its 480 Watts for christ sake!

How come they are recommending at least 450W with 30A, when i have got 480W with 18A?

I didn't even know you could get a 30A 12 volt rail. Damn my ignorance :(

Does this mean that it will not be able to run the card? And if so, that would surely mean i will not be able to upgrade to future cards? :(

you should be able to run an X850 sereis with that dependent on how much current your already pulling

is it 30A just for the card ? if it is that card is going to need about 550W just to run it plus about another 450W for the system its in

Bollocks ... what they are quoting is "peek" performance for 60seconds, or whatever.

I don't care what they print on the side ... ALWAYS add-up the 3.5v+5v and that will give you the TRUE wattage of the PS ... while 18A was good 6months ago, that WAS six months ago.

It is getting rather silly though.

Oh, and if it's any consolation ... that Atrix I got, it's going back ... fan no workie on it. :D

im not running an x850, but i am looking around at all graphics cards and ati is replacing the x1800 series that was just released with the x1900 series in january. They require the 30A.

so if i am planning to run it i need a new psu with a 30A 12 volt rail?

>:(

lol unlucky - probably inevitable though :D

"There is a 'whispering' 120mm fan with "Silence Control Technology" where the fan speed consistently stays at the possible lowest RPM rate 0-0 RPM"

maybe they take their 'silence technology a little too seriously' :P

Well, it is in the system and running without the fan ... not even warm. ;)

But I will get it replaced as initially it was making a bloody racket, I may have been the one who effed it up. :thumb:

I found that my psu has:

+5V - 40A

+3.3V - 30A

+12V - 18A

-12V - 0.8A

-5V - 0.3A

+5VSB - 2A

i am looking to have at least 30A i think, but i really dont know which voltage to look at... :(
