Is there anyway to "crop" a video clip so that something does not show? ex. a
microphone.
Also, is it possible to keep the audio going and take away the video? For
example-in an interview, can the voice keep going over other pictures?

Yes. Yes. Yes.

1) Simplest way to "crop" a video clip is by zooming in.

2) To separate the audio from the video you need to "extract" the audio by
saving it separately from the video.

Delete any video clips from the timeline. Then drag the video clip down to
where the Audio band at the bottom of Movie Player is. Then save the movie
file. What will happen is that since there's no video to save, Movie Maker
will automatically save it as an audio file, WMA (sorry can't save it as a
WAV or MP3 or other file, tho there are freeware online that can convert WMA
to other audio formats).

Then import that audio file into your collections. Add the audio file to the
timeline and whichever video clips or pictures. Select a video clip on the
timeline and select "Clip" from the main menu, then "Audio" and "Mute" to
mute the volume of any audio in that video clip. Alternatively you can click
the volume control just above the timeline and drag the toggle from the
middle to audio / music. That will mute any audio embedded in ALL video
clips in the timeline.

3) With audio separate from video, you can then add whichever video clips or
pictures to your timeline while the audio track keeps on.

PapaJohn, Rehan and Microsoft have more detailed documentation on the
howtos, but the process is easier did than explained.

To zoom in -- I tried that and it did not seem to work.

When you say to zoom in--it zooms in on the storyboard and enlarges that. Am I missing something? Your other instructions made sense and worked. Thanks

There are several kinds of zoom, moving zooms where it starts at regular
magnification and then zooms in. Another kind Zoom Inset (or maybe Outset)
zooms at stable magnification and stays at that level of magnification.

It's the latter kind I was referring to. Microsoft Windows Movie Maker
forums have detailed instructions on how to set zoom effect.
