My web site now offers a SUPER.EXE self extracting archive for
download which contains my new ANTI-UP support program. The program
supports SuperLite, which is a free on-demand antivirus scanner using
the powerful KAV scan engine. ANTI-UP offers a KAV def file updater
and a simple menu.
By way of explanation: I used to simply provide a link to ANTIDOTE.
This 4 meg file is updated weekly. It's far better to extract the
files from within the ANTIDOTE sfx and update them. The SuperLite
scanner is contained within this archive. My ANTI-UP program manages
the chores of extracting SuperLite and offering a def updating
service. The first time ANTI-UP is run, it downloads ANTIDOTE,
extracts the files from within it, and updates the defs. Thereafter,
there is no need to d/l ANTIDOTE.
I strongly recommend the use of SuperLite, even though it is strictly
on-demand and offers no cleaning or file deletion. It should work well
on all versions of Windows. and it offers Win XP users an alternative
to F-Prot for DOS. It's very easy to use, and it offers four basic
scanning options. Use it to scan downloads and to scan your drives
before backing up. You just can't beat having a top notch AV scanner
on hand for free. And KAV is updated on average more than once a day.
