I finaly got a new cpu, I ditched my 2.4 Celeron that was running at 3.1ghz
at 48C and I replaced it with a P4C 2.8, its stock speed is being registered
at 2.84ghz but the temp is about 45C. Can this be right? Also when
overclocked to 3ghz the temp while encoding a divx (v5.1) was 56C and idle
is about 35C. I think the temp while encoding is too hot because this chip
should overclock to about 3.6ghz and I'm affriad of what the temp will be. I
am gonna replace the termal compund tomorrow because the stuff I had came
with my Akasa Copper King heatsink and I used about half of it on the
celeron, what was left I used on the p4.
Thanks.
Martin.

I am no expert but for encoding that does seem a little hot, but not bad
from what I understand of encoding it is a very processor intensive
process.. Yes the P4 running cooler than your celeron is possible. In fact
is probable as you are going to a processor with a updated architecture
(sp?). I would replace your paste with a silver compound, I myself dropped
10 degrees farenheit going to arctic silver 3.
