New printer driver error I have never seen

At some point in the last few days, my printer driver disappeared for no
known reason, and when I tried to figure out why I also got a message that I
could not add a new device because the spooler was not working. Unable to
figure out how to diagnose that issue by myself, I went through the
uninstall/reinstall process for my HP2200 series all-in-one printer using the
original disc. It was almost done with the reinstall when I got another
error that it as unable to finish the installation because the "RCP server is
not working." I plugged that term into this Newsgroup search window and there
is nothing about it. Now I have no printer, fax, copier or scanner. What is
an RCP server and how bad is this? What do I try next? Help!

I don't know if this related or not, but I tried to fix it with System
Restore and it was unable to complete the process - for 3 different dates! I
never had that happen before either.

Oops sorry, re: message posted a few minutes ago, I just realized it's RPC
server not RCP, and I found a post about that I hope will help.

Did you start the Print Spooler service at some point?

Most spooler failures are caused by bad or corrupted print drivers and
components.

Hello Alan, I am still trying to figure out HOW to do that, I can't find any
instructions that work. I used a sequence someone posted on this board re:
re-enabling the RPC server but I must not have done it right because it did
not work and it told me the syntax was wrong. I just downloaded an app today
that is supposed to fix spooler problems, called PrintFlush, but when I went
back to my control panel to add my printer driver back it still gave me the
error message thqt the spooler is not working. I would appreciate any
suggestions.

Hello Alan,

I tried the net start spooler commend already with no luck - it says the
system cannot find the pathway. I went into Services and the spooler is set
to Automatic and the RPC is Enabled so it all looks normal. The RPC Locator
was set to Manual so I changed it to Automatic to see if that would work - no
luck there either. Should I change it back to Manual?

I then ran a program called DriverCure that cleans out old, corrupted and
expired drivers & downloads the latest updates for all system drivers. I had
previously deleted and tried to reinstall the HP drivers for my printer - it
allowed me to uninstall the program but I could not reinstall because it said
the spooler is not working. I have also swept my computer with several
anti-spyware programs and cleaned the registry with RegCure. I am running out
if ideas!

Is the "HP Standard TCP/IP Port" monitor installed?

look under this registry key . Launch regedit.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors

P.S. When I went into Services and tried to restart the spooler it gave me
the message "Error 3 - system cannot find the path specifed." As I said
earlier, all the settings look normal otherwise.
