Hello:

I'm an individual who thought it would be a good idea to learn MS Access,
so that I can put on a resume that I know at least the basics.

So, I am about to sign up for an on-line distance learning course.

Saw that the price of the MS Access program is about $200.00
Wow ! It's more than the cost of the course itself.
This could be a real stopper for me, as I don't have a business; just want to
learn it.

The course requirements state:

"and any database management system, including Microsoft Access,
Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL."

My questions are:

a. Any cheaper way out ?

b. In the business and educational communities, are any of the other databases
used as much as Access, or as useful ? Any cheaper ?

Any thoughts on a cheaper way out, or on this in general would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob:
If you are using MS Office Standard Edition, check out
the cost of upgrading to Professional. It may well be less
than buying Access as a standalone package.

Hope This Helps

PostgreSQL and MySQL are both available free.

SQL Server developer edition is $49, and far more marketable as resumes go.
BUT...Access has an entire front-end system (screens, reports, etc.) built
into it, whereas SQL Server is just the database part.

Can you post a link to the class you are taking?
