I just bought a new Dell Vostro 200 with XP and it won't connect to
the internet. I used the same connection on my old PC and it works
fine, but when I connect the new one it just says "Acquiring Network
Address" for a couple mins and then says "This connection has limited
or no connectivity...". It's straight out of the box so its nothing I
did. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dan

what kind of broadband modem?
if it is ADSL it needs to be configured, maybe.
if it is a cable modem unplug it from the power outlet and plug it back in
after a few seconds then turn on the PC.
cable modems get attached to the old nic card, and won't see the new one
until they are turned off then on.

Can you please let us know how do you connect, is it wired or wireless?.
Did you run the wizard to connect and input the Network SSID or the network
name then the Encryption key if your network secured?.

Try this:
= Click Start >> Control panel >> Network and Internet Connections >> Double
click Network connections, then right your LAN Icon and select Properties.
On the LAN properties under General make sure the Internet Protocol TCP/IP
is selected and click Properties.
There make sure the Machine Get assigned Automatically IP address and Renter
the Encryption Key and the Network SSID then click
[OK].

You may receive a "Limited or no connectivity" message

Some cable modems are sensitive to the MAC address of the device
connected to them. If you change the computer, the MAC address of
the network interface card in the new computer, will be a different
number. You need to determine whether it is as simple as powering
down and powering up the cable modem, to set it right. Or,
tech support at your ISP, may have another procedure they use
to handle learning of the MAC address. Your ISP may offer advice
similar to some of the things suggested on this page.

Some search terms: "cable modem" "mac address"

I had the same problem after installing a new cable modem. I called the
ISP (Cox) and the MAC address was the problem,. Once the tech
determined the MAC address, and did their magic, I had no further
problems.
