Hello

I'm currently using a retail copy of Windows XP Pro on my Dell. I just ordered a new Dell which comes with XP Home edition. What I want to do is swap the operating systems on my PCs.... move XP Pro to the new PC, and XP Home to the old PC.

Since XP Pro was activated on my old PC, and vice versa, what are the steps I need to take to swap operating systems? Do I need to call Microsoft? And if so what information will they need from me, and do I do this before or after I uninstall/re-install the operating systems on each PC

Thanks!

You can install your retail copy of Windows XP Professional on your new
computer. When you activate you will have an internet and phone option. You
will need to uninstall Windows XP from the old computer. Then if the
internet option does not work, use the phone option and tell Microsoft what
you are doing. However, changing the OS will likely cancel the Dell
warranty on your new computer.

The second part of your plan will violate the EULA as the OEM versions of
Windows XP Home is tied to the new Dell computer. I suspect with your new
Dell you will not get a Windows XP CD. I think Dell uses the Restore System
CD approach. Restore System CDs will likely not work on your old computer.
If they do, the drivers will not match the old computer hardware.
