Hello,

Wonder if anyone can help. I purchased a brand new PC running XP Home
and IE 6. SP2 loaded.

The first thing I installed was my Wanadoo software and hooked up the
broadband modem.
I can now connect to the internet at ping level - I can ping loopback
and the provider's server but I am unable to access anything on the
internet.
I have searched all over the web for suggestions on what to do next.
Have tried resetting winsock and running netsh int ip reset
resetlog.txt to no avail.
I have restored system to first checkpoint.
I have installed firefox brower get same error.

I wonder if anyone might have a suggestion - its one of those PCs where
all the software is on a single partition so I can't even reformat and
reload the OS. Or at least I don't think I can!!!

Grateful of any help

Kind regards

Mandie

Hi Mandie,

I had a similar problem when I purchased a new laptop, so this may apply to
you.

My laptop came bundled with a windows and drivers licenses from HP and
inadvertantly I applied an XP upgrade disk to XP pro. This overwrote the
connection and network settings and even though I used the connection wizard
I could still not view the Internet (or other shared pcs).

Restoring the OEM drivers and Windows version and then running the
connection wizard solved the problem.

So... What I think you have to do is find the Windows and Drivers disk that
came with your PC and re-install the software so that you have the correct
OEM drivers and software for your brand of PC.

You may like to check first with your PC supplier or manufacturer. You
should still be under warranty.
