I've just built a new system ABIT NF7-S2G, Athlon 3000+ CPU, Galaxy 6800GT
graphics but when it comes to boot there is no monitor. It is powered but
stays in standby mode.

Tried 512mb DDR 400 RAM in DIMM 3 then 2 then 1 but this hasn't helped...

Swapped mobo with shop for a brand new one even though they said they
couldn't find any fault on first one but this hasn't worked!

Anyone any ideas?

Cheers

Does your monitor work on another machine.

Has your computer worked with another monitor.

Does your computer beep or make noises as if it is booting but the video
doesn't vome on

Is the CMOS jumper in the correct position

Is the bios set for agp or pci video.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've answered your points below. Any help
gratefully received as its been doing my head in for days now!!

In my experience this problem is usually because
either something is not seated or hooked in properly, or
your motherboard is making a short contact with the case
somehow, or at least it thinks that there is a short.
Make sure not to repower the system too quickly, need
to give it at least a minute or so before each try.

I got a computer here that does similar & have never been able to detirmine
exactly why.
From a "cold" start, it almost starts & then just sits there. I just hit the
reset button & away it goes. No other problems. I put it down to something
like the cpu fan isn't spinning at the required speed or something. I was
going to see if I could enter a "pause" in there somewhere but I've got used
to it now!!
Try hitting the "reset" button?

Could be an incompatibility between the motherboard AGP slot and the
video card. On some mother boards there is a red led near the AGP slot
that lights up when the video card is incompatible. There are several
different voltages used in the 1, 2, 4, and 8x cards - your video card
capability may not match the motherboards.

Cheers for the suggestions fellas - I've given them all a go to no avail and
ended up leaving it at a local computer shop....

I'll post details of what was wrong when/if I get it back working.

Thanks again
