NEW Pc build Help Needed. Thanks.

Ive been waiting for a few things to drop into place. Sata 2 with NCQ
and Dual core and maybe even a decent vicdeocard. now these have come
down to a decent price its time to build my pc.

But me need alittle help. This pc will do me for years i hope. So iam
putting some decent stuff into it.

The prices iam using are Australian dollars. So No US people please
saying WOW thats an expensive pc. Well Shit actually it is :) Ive just
adde dthis after adding everything up BAHAHA.

Iam going to use this pc to play games on my HD Tv and do Video
Encoding and other stuff. Should be sweet with dualcore.

This PC is my christmas and birthday and easter and whatever present
:) Add Holiday here :p

CPU X2 3800 or X2 4200 536.00

I can use a 4200 if i want. Just not sure if a 4200 is that much
better than a 3800
X2. maybe you can help me decide.

Mobo Abit 300.00

I was thinking Abit Ultra somthing. I like Abit.

Ram 2 Gig Low Latency. Dual 500.00

I want 2 Gig in my sytem. You may think this is to much. But i want
this pc to last many years. Iam going to do lots of High Definition
encoding. Using MSEncoder and other stuff so i will need it. ill be
working with 4 gig plus video files.

I realy have no idea what kind of ram in Low Latency their is in 1 Gig
sticks. So i realy need some help here.

VideoCard 7800 GT 256 Meg 600.00

Well from what ive been reading this card is the best bang for buck at
them moment. 20 pipes of YUMMY. iam going to conect this to my TV via
the Din to componet cable. Hope its got a DIn and a cable ????

Harddisk 2 Sata 2 drives in Raid. Atleast 160 gigs X 2 254.00
127.00
For one Drive.

Ive wanted to do raid for a while. So or my new pc this is what iam
doing

Iam leaning towards Samsung for the raid. As i want a quiet system.
And reliable.

Soundcard Audigy 2 ZS 150.00

This is my current sound card and seems decent enough. Creative have
releaed a new one. Audacity or somthing. So i might get one of those.

Mouse Logitech G7 Cordless. 140.00

If you want the best cordless mouse this is it.

Keyboard Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard. 100.00

It s got a LCD screen. No moreinfo needed :)

Grand Total 2580

Now with Sata 2 with NCQ in raid and X2 Dual Core and PCIE Videocard
AND 2 gigs of Low latancy in Dual mode. Now that must be a decent pc
right :)

HOLLY CRAP. Thats alot. Do you think its worth it. I try to get it
down to 2000 bucks that sounds better.

Thanks for any help, helping me out.

Thanks all.

The 4400+ has 1M caches, those can make a big difference on some
applications. The difference between a 4200+ and a 3800+ is only clock
speed, the 4200+ is slightly faster than the 3800+ but the price
difference is small also so you might want to do it. If you can afford it
get the 4400+.

Mobo Abit 300.00

I was thinking Abit Ultra somthing. I like Abit.

The Nforce 4 motherboards are all pretty similar, I have a 4400+ with an
MSI K8N Neo4 and it works fine. I don't think you'll go wrong with any
Nforce4 board, Abit, ASUS, Tyan and MSI pretty much the same. The MSI
boards have two gigabit ports and two SATA RAID controllers but unless you
are building a file server you'll never use the additional controllers. If
graphics performance makes a difference to you (from the tone of your post
it doesn't) you might want to get an SLI board which would give you some
headroom for a future upgrade, if you don't care about graphics then stick
with the non-SLI boards.

Spend a little more and get high performance memory, maybe even PC3500
RAM. You'll probably want to up your system to 4G in the future. The A64
is speced to run the memory bus at 166MHz DDR rather than 200MHz DDR where
there are two double sided DIMMs on each bus. I have 4G on my system using
economy PC3200 OCZ DIMMs. My system isn't stable if I try to run the
memory at 200MHz, it's rock solid when I run it at the default 166MHz.
Other people have reported that they can run at 200MHz with 4G so it is
possible. To improve your chances of being able to do it spend a little
more and by faster RAM then you need so that you'll have some margin to
play with.

Use Seagates, in my experience these are the most reliable drives. They
are also among the quietest.

You'll need a good PSU for whatever you decide to get. Best bang for the
buck:

Tagan TG480-U22
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817101516 $91

I have 2 of these in RAID and they are fast & SILENT! Highly recommend . .
..

2 - Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148105 $93 each /
$186 for 2

It sounds as though you want some options open concerning your RAM choice -
just make sure the mobo you chose can provide suitable voltage if you intend
to over-clock for performance. Take a look at this board if you don't need
SLI:

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136152 Super easy
set-up and nVIDIA nTune (an embedded overclocking solution) makes it a cinch
to fine-tune memory, CPU or video card. A great board. Good luck and have
fun with your build!

I have an X2 4200+ with two 1GB PC3200 DIMMs. I don't plan on
adding memory right away, but when I get to it would there be any
reason to add two 1GB PC3500 DIMMs instead of another two PC3200s?
I'm pretty sure that the existing PC3200s aren't performance DIMMs
since they were the ones preinstalled in a recent HP computer.

I don't know if it would help, but they are identified by CPU-z as
having part number 16VDDT12864AY40BD1, and were manufactured this
year by Micron Technology. The motherboard, fwiw is identified as
an MSI AMETHYST-M with an ATI Southbridge SB400. Thanks.

Hmm, just over a week and no replies. Even the usual experts have
either remained silent or gone AWOL. :) In case anyone is able to
provide an answer this time, my original request included some
additional info. about the two existing PC3200 DIMMs, in case that
information would be of any use.

The memory system runs at the speed of the slowest DIMMs. However when you
have 4 double sided DIMMs the memory bus is only speced to run at 166MHz
not 200MHz. If the DIMMs have a little more margin then it's possible to
run at 200MHz. If you buy PC3500 DIMMs or premium PC3200 DIMMs you will
have a little more margin to play with. The timing to each DIMM socket is
slightly different so you can try swapping the locations of the fast pair
and the standard pair if you find that you have trouble running at full
speed.

Thanks. I suspected that would be true for the PC3500 DIMMs (or
premium PC3200s), but I'm not sure how much of a drag the existing
PC3200 DIMMs will be. I guess there are no guarantees and only
testing will tell if they'll allow the memory bus to stay at 200MHz
or if it'll have to run at 166MHz. Either way the X64 runs
considerably faster than my last, an Intel PPro. It's been more
stable too, but that's probably due to Windows, not the hardware.

You want to make sure that the ram your using has all the same Cas Latency.
Mixing 3500 with 3200 probably wouldn't be a good idea from what I've read.
Also, High performance ram sometimes requires tweaking to achieve
stability(according to Crucial/Kingston) so unless your good at adjusting
the ram properties, I would say stick with PC3200.
